- Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II founded the city on 18th November 1727.
- Jaipur is considered as the first planned city of India. It was planned by a Bengali architect, Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya in accordance to Shilpa Shastra (the science of Indian architecture).
- The city was painted in terracotta pink as a grand welcome to the Prince of Wales by Maharaja Ram Singh. Since then it gained a unique identity as the Pink City.
