The garden is surrounded by popular tourist spots like the Amer Palace, Jaigarh fort and blankets of lush greenery to make it all the more appealing to the tourists. Upon turning the pages of history we find that the garden was named by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh around 280 years ago. ‘Vrindavan’ was coined keeping in mind the mythological place, where Lord Krishna is believed to have resided. The garden reflects a similar serenity. The kings also consecrated an idol of Lord Krishna in a special complex in the Kanak Vrindavan valley known as the ‘Shri Govind Dev ji‘ complex. The garden has a temple, a series of fountains and intricate marble workmanship which is still in perfect condition only with a few blemishes. It is managed by the Government of Rajasthan and is an ideal tourist destination housing some of the magnificent structures of the past.

History: Kanak Vrindavan Garden

The serene and composed Kanak Vrindavan Garden was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh of Jaipur some 280 years ago. It is surrounded by the mighty Aravalli hills on the sides. The garden is believed to resemble mythological Vrindavan of the Hindus which is the abode of Lord Krishna where he frolicked with his Gopis. The Valley was built for the king to spend some peaceful leisure time. Many devotees believe that it is the sacred spot where the waters from several rivers merged to carry out the holy ‘Ashwamedh Yagna’. Again the Govind Deoji temple that is believed to house the incarnation of Lord Krishna was believed to be built around the same time.

The Kanak Vrindavan Garden is perfectly located on the foot hills of the Nahargarh hills. The valley shelters a lot of unique trees and lawns. Its beauty lies in the beautiful Govind Deoji temple that is intricate with ‘chhatris’, exquisite mirror and ‘jali’ work on its walls and a series of mesmerizing fountains. The garden is divided into eight sections. The ‘Parikrama’ fountain carved out of a single slab of marble is the most famous of all. The workmanship from a bygone epoch and the dexterity of the artwork surrounding the garden makes the environment all the more soothing. The ‘Garba Griha’ (seat of the lord) is a place inside the temple complex that is crafted with delicate ‘panni’ work. This evergreen garden offers a stupendous view of Jaipur and of the nearby attractions like the Amer Fort and the Dharbawati River. The garden has also hosted many Bollywood films, the breathtaking scenery being the reason.
