Govind Dev Ji Temple is one of the most famous and sacred temples in India. This famous tourist destination spot is located in the City Palace complex, in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The deity, Govind Dev Ji is the reincarnation of Lord Shri Krishna and is believed to look exactly this way on earth. The idol was brought to Jaipur by Raja Sawai Jai Singh from the temple of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. It is said that the Raja was a staunch devotee of Lord Krishna. The temple is sandwiched between Chandra Mahal and Badal Mahal in the City Palace complex. ‘Aartis’ and ‘Prasad’ or ‘Bhogs’ are offered at the temple at seven different times every day. Janmashtami is celebrated with prom and grandeur among other festivals in the temple.
History of Govind Dev Ji Mandir Jaipur
Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II brought the idol of Lord Govind Dev Ji from Vrindavan to his own palace, Surya Mahal during his reign. It is said that the King once had a dream where Lord Krishna told him to install the idol in his palace to save it from being destroyed by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. Later he shifted to Chandra Mahal.
Legend of Govind Dev Ji Temple
As mythologies narrate, the idol of Lord Govind Dev Ji was sculpted by the great grandson of Lord Krishna, Bajranabh around 5000 years back. Once when Bajranabh was 13 years old, he happened to ask his grandmother how Lord Krishna looked like. From the description he tried to create an image of Lord Krishna. After two failed attempt, he was finally able to create the exact replica of Lord Krishna. The image was called ‘Bajrakrit’ which means ‘creation of Bajra’.

The Govind Dev Ji temple is a part of the City Palace surrounded by beautiful gardens, European chandeliers and paintings in Indian art. The ceiling is decked with gold and is positioned in such a way that it is directly visible to the Maharaja from his Chandra Mahal palace.

The Temple is dedicated to Govind Dev Ji,the principal deity of Amber’s Kachawaha Dynasty. it is situated in the City Palace complex sandwiched between the Chandra Mahal on one side and Badal Mahal on the other.
